Is This Funny or Scary? Global Warming Blamed on Fat People

Remember, “the science is settled.”  This is the phrase that is hurled any time a person questions any part of Global Warming ‘science’.  The inevitable result is that there is no governor on the rhetoric that comes out of the Global Warming camp.  It just keeps getting ratcheted up over and over.

A story on Fox News entitled, “Do Fat People Cause Global Warming?” is a good example of this.  In the article ‘fat people’ are charged with the sin of causing global warming.  The people saying this are providing no statistics regarding the percentage of greenhouse gases produced by ‘fat people’ verses ‘skinny people’ or the overall percentage of effect on the planet made by fat people compared to other producers of greenhouse gasses such as volcanoes, the oceans, all other animal life on earth, uncontrolled population growth in third world countries, children born out of wedlock, and all industrial production.

No, the target today is fat people.  They are an easy target, of course.  Everyone loves to blame the fatty, and they are a convenient target for any joke or attempt at physical humor.  I would wager that the percentage of extra CO2 gas produced by fat people would be many times less that one percent of the produced CO2 gas.

This is just another example of Global Warming alarmists trying to get attention and throwing their weight around.  The scary thing is that when they blame, they generally attempt to punish or control those who are being blamed.  I supposed their solution for this will be to tax fat people or products that make a person fat in order to buy carbon credits in order to offset their awful fatness.  Soon we will see a sticker on the counter at McDonalds that will say “35 cents out of every dollar spent here goes to taxes.”

If you do not see a Pandora’s Box being opened here, you are blind.  These ideas will open the door for all sorts of controls on people’s lives including eventual population controls because uncontrolled populations are a much greater ‘threat’ to the planet than fat people.  And who will take the brunt of these new attitudes, the responsible Western democracies that care.  Because, trying to implement these ideas in countries that have no responsibility of their own or in socioeconomic areas of Western democracies where large numbers of children are born out of a marriage, would seen as a racist policy.

If cannibalism were allowed today, Grace Jones would eat you.  She has to be the most intimidating woman on the planet, and I like most males am creeped-out by women who can kick my ass, especially women who could do it without really even trying.

 

Creepy Person #49- Roseanne Barr

Roseanne is sort of gross/creepy.  That voice alone is enough to make you want to put a bullet in your brainpan, and if you rent She Devil, you’ll be pleased (or completely creeped-out) with a nudie shot of her.  Yuck.

 

Creepy Person #48- Andy Warhol

This is another person that was suggested by a friend.  He’s creepy.  He looks creepy, and his art is weird, but recently I caught a couple of his old movies (which he directed) on one of the Showtime channels.  They were Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula.  On top of being terrible films in general, they were extremely creepy.

 

Creepy Person #47- Tom Ctuise

I originally had Tom Cruise at #100.  The whole Katie Holmes thing got him on the list.  He, old enough to be her father, marries her, and she disappears.  Then I remembered the whole Scientology thing, and he quickly shot up the list.  Here we have a guy who is now purported to be the head of a completely made-up religion.  This particular religion at one point attempted to infiltrate the American government (it’s true check out operation Snow White).  His new videos are legendary.  He is definitely creepy.

 

Creepy Person #46- Al Gore

He’s a creepy looking guy, but that is not what creeps me out.  It’s the whole attempt to change our society by pushing a made up global problem with fictitious facts and skewed numbers on a world that does not need his help, while at the same using more energy personally than some small countries.

Creepy Person #44- Dr Phil

“What were you thinkin’” putting Dr Phil on this list?  I have a low opinion of psychology in general, but here we have a guy who claims to want to help people, and obviously the best way to do that is to allow them to air their dirty laundry to all of America while at the same time berating them.  You might refer to this as ‘selling out’, but no, selling out would be to then endorse an online dating service as if that were a good way to meet someone and build a good relationship.  When is America going to hold it’s psychologists and counselors up to a higher standard?  They already have a 70% divorce rate (including Dr. Phil) which runs a full 15 percentage points above the national average.  Fix your own house before you come and try to fix mine, creep.

 

Creepy Person #43- Alice Cooper

No creepy list would be complete without a few of the creepy rockers on it.  Alice Cooper looks creepy, sings creepy, and has a creepy stage presentation.  For all of that, he comes off as some kind of nice guy whenever he is interviewed.  For this reason, he drops a few notches compared with the other creepy rockers.

 

Creepy Person #42- Ozzie Ozbourne

He is creepy in the same way that Alice Cooper is.  He has the creepy music, he had the creepy look, and his stage show included defecation and bat eating.  Score!  However, he has lost some of his hard creepy rocker edge in the last few years.  Not to worry though, it has been replaced be an equally creepy befuddled old man that shuffles around and talks to himself.  Drugs are indeed creepy.

She is a different kind of creepy, the nasty kind.  She is the kind of girl that could be hot when seeing her isn’t turning your stomach.  Don’t touch guys.  That stuff does not wash off.

Creepy Person #70- Kat Von D

Here is a woman who does not need all of the tattoos to bring attention to herself.  It is obvious that under all of that body art there is a beautiful woman, but at this point it would take years of surgery and tens of thousands of dollars to find her.  I know tattoos are very popular right now, but I am personally repulsed by them.  Fashions may come and go, but not a tattoo.  Most of these people would do better dealing with the issues that are driving them to do this to their bodies rather than getting them in the first place.  In extreme cases, such as hers it is all just too much, and creepy.

 

Creepy Person #69- Seth Green

The unkempt appearance that leaves him looking like the antagonist in a hillbilly horror movie would be enough to put him on the list, but he and the next Seth on the list (see the entry below) are writers of the animated show Family Guy.  It’s hilarious.  But the guys pole vault over lines that others fear to even get close to.  They are extremely creative, but their creativity often seems to be directed toward a place that is the literary equivalent of the place Oppenheimer’s creativity took him.

 

Creepy Person #68- Seth MacFarlane

Everything but the unkempt part in #69 applies here.  Not to get too preachy in a light hearted article, but the in the book of Romans it refers to “inventors of evil,” and these guys would be the poster boys for this.  They would make the list if only for inventing that creepy old guy who lives down the street from the Griffins.  The show is very funny, but even Family Guy needs to have boundaries.

 

Creepy Person #67- Jot

This one may be a little obscure for some (see this for more info on Jot http://www.tvparty.com/lostrel.html ).  Jot was one of the quasi-religious cartoons that turned up from time to time in the 1970s.  He was basically a white dot with feet (which is creepy enough), and the parents in this show were like those on the peanuts, except that you could understand them.  They seemed to be sort of omnipresent.  As with another of these types of characters, Davey, from Davey and Goliath, Jot was a horrible child.  He would always to bad things, and never would make it right until his conscious got to him or he got caught.  Then it was always, “I’m sorry I stabbed little Timmy.”  “That’s OK Jot, I still love you.”  How about encouraging kids to make good decisions in the first place?  All of this forgiveness stuff gets kind of overrated if you are never motivated to be any better.  The animation in this one is creepy too.

 

Creepy Person #66- Anna Nicole Smith

I thought it might be too soon after her passing to put this one on the list, but the creepiness she visited on this world during her lifetime would have made it egregious not to have included her.  First there was the whole married to an ancient billionaire thing.  That alone is creepy.  Then she went through the period where she was gross and overweight, but it seemed neither she nor the media realized this as they continually showed her scantily clad body at every opportunity.  Since her passing, a video of her ‘entertaining’ some children at birthday party has come out.  Her face is made up in such a way that it would haunt the dreams of even the Joker, and she looks out of it!  It is hard not to feel pity for what became of her life, but she was undeniably creepy.

 

Creepy Person #65- Barney Frank

Thanks, Massachusetts.  Here we have a guy who is another nightmare for conservatives.  He sounds like the Mad Hatter and lived with a male escort who actually ran a male escort service from the house where they both lived while he was (and still is) in office.

 

Creepy Person #64- Elivra

Yeah, she was a hot girl who made some money dressing up like a sexy Bride of Frankenstein for Saturday morning movies.  That was a little weird, but have you seen her lately?  Up until the last couple of years she was still putting on that getup and appearing in public, and it was not pretty.  Apparently, someone finally had the talk about aging gracefully with her, and she has decided to retire, but not before taking applications for an Elvira to replace her, as if the world could not do without her.

 

Creepy Person #63- Robert Tilton

I guess I’ll pile all of these bastards under the same heading, so I don’t have a list completely populated by televangelists.  Bilking old ladies out of their life savings in order to fund his lavish lifestyle is pretty creepy.  Having people put their faith in you (to the point of stopping taking their medicine) and later dying of treatable illnesses, being exposed as a charlatan on network television, and closing up shop in Dallas only to reopen shortly thereafter in Florida.  And, doing all of this while dragging the name of the Holy God that you serve through the mud with you.  Creepy.  I am sure the karma cloud that surrounds this guy is enough to block out the sun.

Have you seen this guy?  He is the Phantom of the Opera.  Cree-py.

 

Creepy Person # 61- Richard Simmons

He has lost a little relevance in the past few years, but the age and those horrible shorts only add to the creepiness.  I wonder who gets more creeped-out at one of his weight-loss sessions, the girls or the guys when he touches them.  If this were and list of irritating people, he would definitely score higher.

Accountability

Much has been made of accountability in exercise programs.  The effectiveness of accountability has been documented by many substance abuse programs including Alcoholic’s Anonymous.

When we began our weight loss programs, my wife and I made commitments to one another.  We have held each other to our commitments and have expectations that each of us will keep up our ends of the bargain on a weekly basis.

Accountability helps us because neither wants to have to admit failure to the other.  We encourage each other every week, cheering on a good week’s total weight loss, and consoling a bad week’s weight loss because we know the effort that we both have put into it.

I also feel accountable because I have decided to write about my attempts to lose weight on this blog.  My little girl also holds me accountable though she does not even know it.  Seeing her refer to the hefty male figures in her books sweetly as ‘daddy’ reminds me of my commitment to her.  All of these accountabilities have added up to help me hold myself to a successful program.

However, true person-to-person accountability is only as good as the commitment of the people who decide to be accountable to each other.  Don’t be afraid to hold people who make a commitment to you to their commitments, and don’t be afraid to ask them to hold you to yours.

 

Update: I lost 8 pounds this week and am now at 272 lbs.  That is 87 lbs in 15 weeks, and I am 62.5% of the way to my goal.  I am seeing the 100 lb mark on the horizon.  I hope to be there in three weeks.

 

Exercise

I probably should have written about this aspect of my weight loss program much earlier.  I feel that exercise has been an indispensable part of my successful weight loss up to this point.  When I started this program, I also started walking about 30 minutes a day.  Soon I increased that to 45 minutes.  Now I try to walk every day that I can between 45 minutes and 1½ hours.

At first, I had to make myself get out and do this every day, but now I feel jittery if I have not had my daily walk.  I have also increased my speed.  Eventually, I would like to turn this into a jog or run, but at 280 lbs, and with a history of knee problems in my family, I will hold that off until I am a little thinner.

Because I have a responsibility to take care of my child in the afternoons and evenings, and she takes late naps, I do not have a lot of time after work to get in exercise.  I use my lunch and breaks at work to get my walking done.  I am lucky to work at a place that has a large area where I can get out and walk.  I have a cell phone, and am always on-call when I am in the facility.  This works for me because the director has also been nice enough to allow me to take my lunches early before it gets too hot.  If I get a call while I am walking on my lunch, I simply put the walk on hold and service the customer until I can continue the exercise.

Another way I have found to get exercise is to walk to where I am needed at work.  I work at a large facility that has several large buildings within the same complex.  I can get called to assist someone anywhere on the grounds.  I have a cart at my disposal, but I have been walking to my calls lately.  It really does not take me any longer, because I do not have to wait for the cart to warm up, and I get exercise through the walk.

Finally, on the weekends, my family (me, my wife and daughter) go to the park on Saturday and Sunday.  There is a large greenbelt that is interconnected throughout the city.  We take our little red wagon, and park at the City Hall.  This allows us to walk 1½ miles on nice shaded trails to a park with recreation equipment where my little girl can play.  She loves it, until it is time to leave, and we get to spend some quality time together.  When we leave, we walk back to the car, and get that much more exercise.

I have had a lot of success so far with this program, and I hope you can find the time to walk also.

 

Update:   I lost only 1 pound this week.  These weeks are always a little disappointing.  I put in the same effort, eat the same things, but do not get the same results.  I guess that is just the nature of any weight loss program.  I will do as I have done in the past.  I will continue the program as is for another week, before I make any changes to what I am doing.  In the past, these bad weeks always seem to be followed up by a good week with no changes to what I am doing.

As of today, I have lost 79 lbs in 14 weeks.  I now weigh 280, and am 60 lbs away from my goal/reevaluation weight.

Motivation and Positive Self Image

I actually had a revelation watching Paul McKenna’s show.  I don’t think it had anything to do with his point this week, but as I watched the program, I began to reevaluate my own program and motivations.  His point this week was to help people to stop criticizing and start loving themselves (I like the way I said it better).  I do not think I personally have an issue with this.  I have a strong self image that comes partly from my religion and partly from my own ego.  However, there have been all of those failed battles with weight in the past.  What is different about this one?

I think that writing this blog has been a part of it.  I have committed to chronicling what is happening this time.  I also have kept statistics on my progress (See my other blog entries for more info on how I’ve done and what I am doing). 

But as I stated earlier, Paul McKenna’s program this week prompted me to look even deeper.  I looked at and evaluated my attitudes toward myself.  I asked myself, “Why do I have a positive self image while all of the other people in his audience have a negative self image?”  I began to think of the areas that give me a positive self image.  I’ll just deal with a couple of the biggies.  Since I am being completely honest, I think I am a pretty smart guy.  I don’t want to deal too much with this, however because I am quickly destroying my sense of humility which I feel is another good point.

These points are good, but they were no real eye openers.  I hit the nail on the head when I thought about being a father.  I’m a good dad, and I put most of my efforts into this.  As I’ve stated before, my wife and I work different schedules.  This has forced (allowed) me to be a much more integral part of my little girl’s life than a lot of fathers.  Helping her to grow into a good and happy person is my biggest obsession.  And, this is where I hit pay-dirt.  I realized that I have compartmentalized my weight loss.  I moved it from just being ‘how I take care of myself’ to ‘part of what it is for me to be a good and responsible father.’  I gave myself a burden when I began to realize that taking care of her is my biggest responsibility.  I want to be there for her, to see the important parts of her life (for myself), and to make sure that I can meet all of her needs.  I do not want her to have the burden of a 50 something sick parent that forces her to drop out of college to take care of him, or be guy that has the fatal heart attack and is not at her graduation or there to walk her down the aisle.

She is my motivation and my self esteem.  I am already a thin and healthy person in my mind for her, it’s just going to be a few more months before I get there in reality.

 

Tuesday Update:  This week I lost 7 pounds.  This puts me at 78 pounds lost in 13 weeks.  I am at 281 and am 61 pounds away from my reevaluation/goal weight.

 

Coffee

I have taken up a vice as I started this diet.  In the mornings, I have started drinking a four cup pot of coffee.  I think this has been a big part of my success.  I have always liked coffee, black with cream, sugar or both, but I have always been able to take or leave it, and still feel that way.  However, I find that having the coffee when I get to the office in the morning has several benefits.

First, I am able to put something hot and refreshing in my stomach at the beginning of the day.  I do not eat breakfast (I know this flies in the face of most dietary wisdom, but it works for me), and this keeps me from getting hungry before lunch.

Second, the energy that I get from the caffeine is nice in the mornings. And three, I feel that drinking something with zero calories in the early mornings wakes up my metabolism and helps me to start burning calories (I am not a physician, and this is just my opinion).

As far as liquids in general go, I am drinking Coffee, iced tea and water.  Recently I have started drinking an occasional Diet Dr. Pepper.  I don’t know if it’s just the passing of time since I have had anything with sugar in it, but I really like the Diet Dr Pepper.  I do not drink milk, juice or anything with sugar in it.  These drinks are a great way to ruin a diet.

 

Update: I lost 4 lbs. this week, and am now at 288.  This puts me at 71 pounds lost in 12 weeks, and more importantly, I am more that half way to my goal.
